When our clients decided to purchase the house next door, they envisioned transforming it into a long-term guesthouse space for visiting overseas friends and family. Since the home is located in Irvington, a registered historic district, there were strict rules that had to be adhered to. The 1904 home had been poorly remodeled in the 70s and had retained little to none of its original character. A to-the-studs remodel was completed in 2017. While the exterior design maintained its historic architectural features and some of the original windows were preserved, the interior is now spacious and open, with modern influences. Partially furnished, the guesthouse is easily transformed into a home away from home by the addition of personality that each guest will bring.
